Kuwait Fund Updates Ambassador Ishata Thomas on Projects Status in Sierra Leone

Her Excellency Haja Ishata Thomas, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the State of Kuwait, has met with the new Director-General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) where she was briefed about the status of the ongoing development projects undertaken by the Fund in Sierra Leone.

Ambassador Haja Ishata Thomas conveyed heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency Marwan A. Th.AlGhanem, on his appointment as the Director-General of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and prayed for Allah’s continued guidance and protection throughout his tenure.

She disclosed the fruitful bilateral relations between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the State of Kuwait spanning two decades, which was further strengthened by the establishment of Sierra Leone’s Embassy in the State of Kuwait 2009, leading to the signing of a number of bilateral agreements for the benefit of the two countries.

“Kuwait Fund has initiated several development projects in Sierra Leone. The country, in this regard, sees Kuwait Fund as a reliable development partner with a stellar performance on all projects pursued. I am excited to inform you that Sierra Leone has serviced its financial commitment to the Fund, which grants the country access to make withdrawals until 2023. Sequel to this development, the government requests the disbursement of funds for the completion of the Hillside By-Pass Road and Lumley-Tokeh Road projects.

“I am kindly requesting for a status update on the Freetown Wash and Aquatic Environment Revamping Project, aiming at providing sustainable access to safe drinking water and sanitation to the residents of Freetown and the Western Area; the approval of a supplementary loan for the completion of the three tertiary hospitals in Freetown, the proposed Kaningo Juba Water RAW Storage Reservoir as well as the proposed Cancer Treatment Centre,” Ambassador Thomas concluded.

In his response, His Excellency Marwan A. Th.AlGhanem, thanked Her Excellency for the courtesy call, commending Sierra Leone’s Finance Minister, Mr Dennis Vandi, for meeting the country’s financial commitment to the Fund as discussed during the meeting in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Speaking on the status of development projects in Sierra Leone, he explained about the disbursement of funds to complete the Hillside By-Pass Road project, affirming that Kuwait Fund would make the necessary transfer in due course. He added that the Government of Sierra Leone should transmit a ‘completion report’ after the said road project would have been completed.

“For the Cancer Radiotherapy Centre, there will be an appraisal Mission from Kuwait Fund to Freetown early January 2022. We will inform the Government of Sierra Leone of the date of the mission In addition, Kuwait Fund awaits the supplementary loan approval for the provision of funds to complete the three tertiary hospitals in Freetown; the proposed Kaningo Juba Water Storage Reservoir (RAW) is on track as we have received the contract documents for commencement,” he revealed.

The Director-General assured the Ambassador of their continued support to facilitate sustainable development projects in Sierra Leone.
